I just spent the last hour reading the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetic Database.
Holy Shit.
Now, I like to think of myself as a pretty aware parent, I try to keep V out of harm's way with products, etc. She uses BPA free bottles and I use flannel wipes on her (although I must admit, cloth diapering just did not work out for me), she eats mostly organic or local food and we clean our house with baking soda, vinegar & lemon juice or Simple Green. You get the idea.
When I was pregnant, I was given a TON of baby soaps, lotions, powders, etc mostly nice ones, which was great because it was a big money saver. I settled into liking a brand called Mustela. It never disagreed with V and it smells really good and it's from France. I am a sucker for things from France. Plus you think, hey it's from France, it can't be that bad right? Oh no, I was totally wrong. On a scale of 1-10, 0-2 being low, 3-6 being moderate and 7-10 being high most of their products scored at least a 6! WTF? SO needless to say, now I am freaking out and driving to Whole Foods tomorrow to buy the following products that this website has deemed appropriate (scoring a 1 or lower):

California Baby Non-Talc Powder
Badger Diaper Cream*
Bathtime:
